The Last Samurai
The Last Samurai is such a sad and beautiful film. Where was it that I read how tragedy is the tale of mankind, whereas comedy (hence La Divina Commedia) is the prerogative of the gods? How fitting. There seems to be an inextricable link between the tragic and the aesthetic. Tragedy is our heartbeat, it runs in our blood; in it we see ourselves in past and future form. As inborn narcissists, we would more naturally access beauty in reflections of ourselves than of any other.
Ah where was I? The Last Samurai. It's such a poignantly profound film. Historically inaccurate, sure (since when did US have such a major role to play in early Japanese westernisation??), but it still moves me. Bushido in its purest form is awe-inspiring. I wonder how it feels to relinquish one's self so absolutely to a greater ideal. No, I don't mean greater being as in religion, but being at one with humanity and nature and everything in between.
Maybe the good old days were really so in every sense of the word. Example being weaponry. If you're going to kill someone, it seems so much more right to slay him by your own hand, looking him in the face, than by dropping mass bombs or spraying showers of bullets upon a nameless, faceless enemy.

ARGH I though I was finally breaking into my Bloch Sonata pointe shoes, until I took them off and saw blood blooming across the foot of my tights from my little toe. Gross.
I WANT GRISHKO BACK!!!:( Why're they so bloody expensive? Or even Bloch Suprima Strong, which is cut to fit the shape of my foot better than Sonata. Geez even Sansha will do. Guhh.
